When I think back to the beginning of my skin healing journey, I remember just how anxious I was to see results. I remember starting my first healing diet and wondering just how long this fundamental change would take to summon the results that I was desperately in search of.
So, how long does it take to heal psoriasis? Typically the healing process can take anywhere from 3 months to a couple years. With that said, this depends on several factors. The severity of you condition, how long you’ve had it, your diet, your commitment to your regimen, and your mind state should all be taken into consideration when attempting to estimate your approximate healing timeline.
Severity of your condition
The severity of your condition has a big impact on the longevity of your healing timeline. In general, the more severe your condition is, the more toxic the environment within your body is.
For instance, someone who has breakouts that span their entire body is likely to take more time to heal than someone who only has breakouts in a few places such as the knees or elbows. This is not always the case as skin healing is certainly not a black and white process. But for the most part, severity in a good biomarker to consider.
If you have severe psoriasis, odds are you have been affected by years of poor dietary choices amongst several other possibilities. In order to reverse the damages of years of bad nutrition, you must counter this by spending a substantial amount of time following good nutrition principles.
In my experience, following a plant based diet approach was easily the most effective in healing my gut, clearing my skin, and improving my overall health. Click here to be directed to my free guide based on what to eat and what not to eat to heal psoriasis naturally.
How long you’ve had it
How long you have been dealing with your condition is something that goes hand in hand with severity. Psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis alike are progressive conditions that often get worse with time. If you don’t address the root cause of your symptoms and make the necessary changes it is not uncommon for the disease to gradually become worse.
In an ideal situation, you want to get out in front of your disease and stop it in its tracks before it gets out of control. It is a lot easier to prevent disease than it is to treat it. Once the damage is done, it takes a fair amount of consistent dedication to reverse the disease.
So if you have had psoriasis for 10+ years or so, don’t get discouraged if you don’t see results right away. You may be able to heal fairly quickly under the right healing regimen. Just try to relax and let the process run its course.
Your diet
As I touched on, following the right diet approach is absolutely essential. There is nothing more important in natural healing than diet. Following a nutrient dense, gut nourishing, plant based diet is the best way to provide your body with all of the nutrients it needs to ultimately reshape your health.
If you are new to the idea of natural healing and don’t even know where to start, the free guide that I linked to earlier in this post really is a great reference guide that you can use to get yourself started and ultimately build the diet that is going to fit your personal needs and taste buds.
I understand why so many people are turned off by the idea of completely changing the way they eat. I was one of those people. When I first started my diet journey years ago, it was difficult for me to ditch my old habits of eating whatever I wanted.
Now, I cannot imagine going back to the lifestyle I was living before. It makes me cringe to think about it. My life has improved in so many areas since I made the conscious decision to start taking better care of myself. It really is worth it.
Your commitment to healing
Learning what you have to do to heal is one thing, but having the discipline to stay committed to your fundamental healing principles is a whole new beast. This is the single most common road block on most people’s path to clear skin.
As time goes on, you are likely going to begin to experiment with how much you can get away with in terms of eating things you probably shouldn’t be eating. This is especially true once you start to see some success. It’s easy to get high on early success and start thinking that you can start drifting back towards your old lifestyle.
Just know that clearing your skin and keeping it that way is going to take a completely changed perspective. This is not something where you can eat a certain way until you heal and then go back to your old ways. In order to heal and stay healed, you really need to find the diet and lifestyle that works for you and stick to it.
Do you have to eat absolutely perfect all the time to stay free of skin disease? No. Just understand that being consistently dedicated to sustaining your improved gut health is crucial. Embrace all of the positives that come along with a healthier lifestyle.
Your mind state/stress levels
In my time running this blog/website, I have come across many individuals who are doing themselves a disservice by stressing themselves out too much over the healing process. I’ve spoken with quite a few people who have become discouraged and even depressed over the fact that their skin is not healing as quickly as they would like it to.
Honesty, I completely understand. I went through my fair of stress during my healing process and I can relate to how difficult it can be to keep your head on straight. It is easy to become obsessed with your condition and allow it to negatively impact your mental health.
This can really slow up progress as stress is certainly capable of interfering with the healing process. You need to learn to let go a little bit. Don’t spend your days checking in on your skin and worrying about how long it is going to take you to heal.
The best thing you can do for yourself is to follow your regimen to the best of your ability and let it work its magic. It’s amazing what positive energy can do.
How to speed up the process?
I think I’ve made it clear that skin healing is not something that can be rushed. It is undoubtedly going to take some time to achieve your goal of having clear skin. With that said, I there are a few habits that really helped me in speeding up my recovery process..
The first thing that really sped up my healing was juicing. Incorporating fresh vegetable juice into my life has been invaluable in terms of the impact it has had on my health improvements. I healed the last breakout I ever had substantially faster than I had healed other breakouts in the past. I credit much of this swift recovery to the nourishing properties of freshly made veggie juice. If you are interested in buying a juicer click here to head over to my recommended juicers page.
Another habit that will really help you recover more quickly is fasting. Whether it’s water fasting, juice fasting, intermittent fasting, grape fasting etc… Making fasting a staple in your journey Is something you should strongly consider. This allows your digestive system some time to relax and repair, which is exactly what your body needs to correct its imbalances.
I somewhat touched on this in the “Your Commitment to Healing” section, but another way to speed up the process is to not cheat. While I do not believe that one mistake is going to destroy your progress, I do believe that frequent cheating can really get in the way. I think that you will find that your taste buds change over time. As you are eating a diet full of nourishing foods, you will begin to crave these foods. In the mean time, fight those pizza or ice cream cravings as best as you can.
If you follow the right plan, you will heal. Now it is up to you to figure out what that plan is and have the will power to execute it. Don’t worry about how long it is going to take you to heal. Don’t worry about anything. Find your way, have faith in your approach, and let nature take control.
